Dear NEST Users and Developers!
I am very excited to announce the release of NEST 3.10 which brings a number of important improvements:
* You can now pip install nest-simulator (on macOS especially, take a look at https://nest-simulator.readthedocs.io/en/stable/installation/pip_install.htm...) * PyNEST now interacts directly with the NEST kernel at the C++ level—the intermediary SLI layer has been removed. Your simulation scripts should at best require very minimal changes. * Improvements and extensions to eprop plasticity. * For details, see https://nest-simulator.readthedocs.io/en/v3.10/whats_new/v3.10/index.html
NEST 3.10 was the work of 25 developers contributing 1876 commits across more than 170 pull requests—thank you to all who contributed! I would like to thank especially Dennis and Jessica as our release managers, Steffen for making NEST pip-installable and Jochen and Håkon for the overall design of the SLI-free NEST. NEST 3.10 is also the first release to which AI contributed significantly: In the sure hands of Jessica, Mistral and Claude contributed to the tedious chore of porting our test suite from SLI to Python.
Also, now is the last chance to sign up for the NEST Conference 2026, which will take place next Tuesday/Wednesday. The final program is now available at
