Dear NEST Users & Developers! We would like to invite you to our next fortnightly Open NEST Developer Video Conference today *Monday September 21, at 11:30 CEST (UTC+0200).* As usual, in the Project team round, a contact person of each team will give a short statement summarizing ongoing and planned work in the team and highlight cross-cutting points that need discussion among the teams. The remainder of the meeting we would go into a more in-depth discussion of topics that came up on the mailing list or that are suggested by the teams. Feel free to join the meeting also if it’s just to bring your own quick questions for direct discussion in the in-depth section. For developers: systematized use of nest namespace in C++ files — update your branches!

Dear colleagues! As a step towards the implementation of long axonal delay support in NEST by Jan (https://github.com/nest/nest-simulator/pull/2989), Jan has prepared and I have recently merged https://github.com/nest/nest-simulator/pull/3947, which sorts out the rather unsystematic use of the nest namespace in C++ files. Where we earlier frequently used void nest::iaf_psc_alpha::update(...) we now wrap the entire file in the namespace and define all methods inside namespace nest { void iaf_psc_alpha::update(...) } with exceptions only in cases where such definition inside the namespace is not correct. This affects most model and nestkernel files, but the changes are very stereotypical: remove nest:: and wrap all in namespace nest {}. Please merge main into all branches that are part of open pull requests (or that are to become pull requests) to minimize changesets. NEST Developers: New isort version / please pull main into all open pull requests

Dear NEST Developers, We use isort to ensure that Python imports are sorted consistently. A bug fix in isort from isort 8 to isort 9 changes the sorting order in special cases, which affects one file in NEST. For any code still containing the old isort-8 ordering, the CI tests stop when the isort check fails. In NEST main, this problem is now fixed by adapting to isort 9 ordering an requiring isort 9.0.1 for all checks. Please pull main into all your open PRs so that isort passes and the tests building and testing NEST can run.
